A captivating island for many reasons…
Warm and welcoming people with music at heart.
Changing landscapes---ranging from the plains of Pinar Del Rio, to the city of Vinales or Havana. Cubans welcome you even if they are living under hard conditions---always opening up their doors to newcomers.
Twice, I have had the pleasure of exhibiting my art in Havana. The first time for the Havana Biennial in 2012 with a series of watercolors depicting cigars and with a large format painting (now part of the permanent collection of Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes San Alejandro)--- “Le Chevalier de Paris” (a significant figure in Cuban history). The second occasion was in February 2013 with the “Natives of America” series (a thematic that reached part of the population with Amerindian origins). The National Museum of Fine Arts then also acquired one of my paintings themed on music. I have the sentiment that my art finds a particular echo in this country and that my colors resonate.
How does one share the happiness of spending time in Cuba? The joy of discovering « puros » of quality with attractive aromas and the taste of rum blends…
We even get used to the omnipresent humidity. We feel so good that we quickly grow attached to the place.
Away from this island, we feel something went missing because nothing compares.
And I know that deep inside, I still cherish it like a precious treasure of life.
