TO RAKHAM THE RED
In my youth, I was lulled by novels of swashbuckling, Errol Flynn pirate movies and Tintin comics.
I was then charmed by Polanski’s Pirates and the famous Pirates of the Caribbean movies.
Lives of fiends or adventurers. I certainly do not have the soul of a pirate and if I were to pick I would have elected to be a privateer instead… I do not envy such life but I cannot refrain from liking rum aromas and scents of tobacco… For that matter, my cigars replace all your famous ivory sculpted pipes.
And when I do paint pirates, it is never in a scene of battle but rather--- in taverns. I am not driven by the spirit of conquest but by the will of a free man. This is what brings me closer to you, lust missing in the balance…
